Miss Lowry's Class Explores the World From a Kindergarten View!
*Andrei Marquart is student of the month from K-2. Also, we won the cereal drive. We feel very famous.
*Kaleb Winklemann brought in a pumpkin for the class that he actually grew himself in his neighbor’s garden. We are going to measure it and weigh it. We're going to give estimates and then see how close we came. We used posters and books for Kaleb to explain to us how he planted the seed and how they grew. Eventually we will cut; count seeds; roast seeds; and make pumpkin pie. Thank you Kaleb!
*We are doing "Anatomy" using an anatomy apron. We listened to the heart beat and located it on the apron. Then we colored a heart and glued it on to a brown grocery bag so each of us can wear an apron. We are doing Lungs, Liver, Stomach, and Intestines. We put crackers, bananas, and water in a zip lock bag and squeezed it like our stomach would!! Wouldn't you love to know how we are going to demonstrate the Intestines?!
*We are learning to sound out and read some short vowel words using "i" and "a". Yesterday, Grace Messina had "mill". She sounded it out and read it. When I asked her to tell me about a "mill". She said, "You know, Miss Mel in the office." I accepted that.
*Fifth Grade read to us today. For several years now, these two grades have paired up once a week for Reading. There is a bond that forms. Fifth grade really likes to care for us; and we sure like “the big kids” attention. Our favorite thing is to be read to and the fifth graders get reading practice.
*In Bible we have learned six scriptures and are working on our seventh. We review these every week and learn a new one. We are learning through Bible characters how God made us and how He cares for us. We are singing: I'M SO WONDERFULLY MADE! I'm so wonderfully made
You're so wonderfully made
God has made us in a special way, and
We're so wonderfully made.
*We are blessed with volunteers. Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Chapman help at lunchtime. Mrs. Bailey comes in for a couple of hours on Tuesday and Thursday. We even have had Mr. Simpson and Mr. Bailey, too! One day Chandler's grandmother came to help with lunch. The more, the merrier we always say.

Mrs. Hayek's First Grade Become "Pilgrims" and "Indians".
Every November it is a tradition for 1st graders to dress as either a Pilgrim or an Indian and to take part in a special breakfast.
We make Indian vests out of grocery bags and decorate them. Also our Pilgrim hats are made at school.
Each child brings a breakfast item to our feast. It isn’t exactly what the Pilgrims probably ate but we enjoy eggs, sausage, and donuts!
Even Mrs. Stevenson gets into the spirit of the day! She was the "Honorary Turkey!"
Mrs. Medaris's Third Grade is "Out of This World"!
Every year, third grade studies the solar system. We spend time researching the different planets. We make a lighted model of the solar system to hang from our ceiling. Many other crafts and hands-on projects are done in preparation for our “Out-of-This-World” party. This year Mrs. Claire Maquire, a NASA representative came to talk to third through fifth grade about the shuttle program.
The day of our party, the children stay over on a Friday evening. We play games, do crafts, experiments and have an astronaut meal. When dusk comes, the parents arrive and we all go to Pattonville Observatory and have a chance to look through their telescope and see first hand some of what we study.
Third Grade Participates in the Annual CSAMSL Spelling Bee
A Grace Christian Academy third grader, Ephraim McFarland, took second place in the annual CSAMSL Spelling Bee. Let the Spelling begin!
Only three contestants left!
Ephraim takes second place!
A very proud Ephraim McFarland!

Mrs. Wilkinson's Fourth Grade is all "Green Thumbs"!
In the fall of 2004, Mrs. Wilkinson had a dream: to build a Nature Center for Grace Christian Academy. Her students enthusiastically adopted the dream as their own and soon the dream was well on its way to becoming a reality! Mrs. Wilkinson applied for and received grants to purchase plants and supplies for the Nature Center. Students and parents volunteered their time to bake cookies and hold a Bake Sale to raise the additional money needed. Moms and Dads hauled dirt, dug out weeds, planted flowers, saplings and bushes. And many, many, warm Spring days, were spent by the Fourth Grade cultivating the Nature Center.

One of the many beautiful spots in the Nature Center!
Lutheran North and Luthern South High Schools came and volunteered their time as a Community Service Project to help get the Nature Center ready for Winter.
Mrs. Jouett's Fifth Grade Full of Variety!
The famous "Gourd Gallery"!
Fifth Grade is getting a 3-D geometry lesson about chords, diameters, and radii.
The Fifth Grade Class made these "Self-Portraits" for the fall Open House.
